Political Ignorance

Like I said...I've learned more about politics in the past week that I've been in school than I have every known in my life...yeah I know...pathetic. But I have something to say...and this really has nothing to do with my stance on politics...well sort of. For anyone that cares..I'm registered Independent and consider myself a moderate....therefore, I am pretty split when it comes to democratic and conservative policies and whatnot. BUT...coming from a pretty liberal undergrad...which definitely opened my eyes to a lot of things...and now attending a liberal grad school...I just have to make a comment about the unfair nature of what is socially acceptable and what isnt.

WHY is it that professors/the media/students...etc... can go on and on about how awful the republican party is and make jokes about Palin and her family's past and her own past...and just go on and on about them and everyone sits silently or even laughs at the jokes. MEANWHILE...not ONE soul is allowed to utter a word about the democratic party without being bombarded with questions/cynical remarks about how stupid they are? It doesn't make sense...and although I am completely split ( I really am...whether you believe me or not) between the parties...it has gotten to the point that I am leaning more toward the conservative side right now because I feel like I have to continuous defend it in my head.

Just thoughts...its annoying and I guess its just what comes with the educational system...and thats fine because its gotten me to think harder about things that I should be thinking about anyway:)

As for my babysitting situation...I've been hired by the family that I love:) Not full time like I had hoped because of my class schedule...but that probably works out better anyway. I'm gonna hopefully set something up with them for the Spring because I love the mother so much and her kids. And..I'm meeting with another mother tomorrow so we'll see how that goes.

I am covering the Mass. State Senate Primary tomorrow...which is exciting and terrifying but I will let you all know how that goes too:)
And..all those negative nancy professors out there that have tried desperately to get us all to rethink going into journalism have failed at scaring me today with the salary discussion...while the entry level position in a monthly magazine/Cable TV network or Website is considered the best paying position and pays just $30,000....it doesn't scare me and I am annoyed that everyone acts like that is absolutely NO money.....I mean, I know its not a lot..but it's nothing to complain about really for an entry level position.

We'll see what I say when I get into the real world...but for now...I really don't think its that bad.

OMG! morgan i totally agree with you and im glad you pointed that out on your blog. I'm pretty moderate, i'm not super liberal or super conservative. i dont follow politics and know the issues, and seriously after all the press thats going on for this election, i makes me want to turn off the tv! (and im sure the most americans feel the same way.) ive felt that way to; why liberals can bombard conservatives, but when its the other way around, its depicted as unamerican or old school or whatever. with all the press with palin, why didnt people focus on edwards and his affair!? that is more inappropriate than a teenager having a kid (which should only be a family matter since shes so young)! he is married!! and still CHOSE to break his marriage vow. though nowadays the press and media make it seem ok to have an affair..so it doesnt surprise me. i just hate that the public can't make the decisions themsleves and the media just show the news and not put their spin on it. also sometimes i think liberals are also close minded because they dont want to listen to other points of view...im not saying all liberals, but you have to also think that both sides want to assert themselves so much that they dont want to listen and try to come to a compromise/understanding of the other side. obviously i think thats hard in politics since you have to be either one or the other..theres no middle.

that is basically the big reason i dont care for following politics. yes id rather watch real world/road rules challenges (which the new one "the island" is sooo good. i hope you watch that!) but trying to understand all that election coverage is alot more complicated. and seriously, what will mccain or obama do as president? i feel like i dont knwo what the issues are, but i do know that there was hubbub surrounding a pig and lipstick...the media should try to clearly state what each side proposes and not focus on the silly/gossipy stuff that you would find on perezhilton.com.

but i am a good american because i sent in my application for my absentee voting registration since i will be in the hospital!! whoopwhoop!

good blog though, sorry for taking up so much room...and you can add blogs on your blog by editing the layout, clicking "add a gadget", and the chose the one that lets you add other blogs you read!! hope it helps.

hey guys!

borg, i totally feel what you are saying. i am also pretty moderate, although i lean more to the left and STILL i think its ridiculous. first of all, i dont care what anyone says, the media is LIBERAL. period. okay, except for fox news... anyways, i also agree that some liberal people are very closed-minded about their views and unwilling to listen. on the other hand, many conservatives are the same way but i just dont interact with them as often. can i also say that i HATE the way people talk about george bush. the level of hatred and disrespect is insanely offensive and completely inappropriate (especially since he is leader of our country). #1- that is just bad for our country's morale and #2- people who say ridiculous/personal things about him are taking away from the validity of their own political opinion by stooping to such a petty level. anyways, i think its hard for very political people (right or left) to see the full picture and how ridiculous the whole thing is. and THAT is why i hate politics. well, i also hate it because it seems like everything's just a show and everything politicians say is simply words, nothing real. thank you and good night.
