So...we walked in the 15 person pack that we are...half of which have never interviewed someone ever...and covered our first story. We sat through the ceremony that included a slideshow of pictures and memories of victims with the song, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" playing in the background. It was really emotional seeing and hearing the stories of the people involved and somehow..I had never heard someone's personal story about a loss in person until today. The connection to Boston is also a lot stronger than I thought because 2 of the planes hijacked came out of here. I saw a woman holding one of the white roses that were handed out to certain family members of the victims and could tell that she had a good story. It turned out that she was the cousin of Karen Martin...who was the head flight attendent on Flight 11 on American Airlines. Martin and another attendant Amy Sweener I think her name was...called 911 and gave a lot of information to police about the hijackers...they were both stabbed and killed. Hearing Martin's cousin's story was one of the saddest things I've ever come across. But..The first thing she said was that this is the first year that she wasn't angry anymore.
Being a reporter is hard..especially in situations like this...but her openness and happiness to tell her story made me realize even more that this is exactly what I want to do. She was happy to share her story with me....and I am so appreciative that I was able to connect with her today.
I will never forget this day..and its just the beginning!
And...on top of that...Sarah and I made rice krispies treats and are currently eating them out of the bowl...my mom would be disgusted.

that sounds like a very emotional story to cover. hearing that someone isnt angry anymore about what happened to their loved ones, to me, makes the world and its future more hopeful. i mean i couldnt imagine something like that happening to me or my family, so i have no idea how i would react (id probably be angry forever.) but time heals, and im sure that woman is working with foundations and organziations to help others who go through the same thing......ok im rambling.
but i just read your blog. i love it and i'll add it to my favorite blogs on my blog! hehe. :)
