Take a Seat

This will probably be a long one...unless I get sick of writing. I'm watching the skins game...I love them and I love when their games are on TV in Boston.
I went to Dickinson Alumni weekend this weekend...it was great and kinda annoying all at the same time. I saw some of my best friends ever that was exciting but other than that...it was so overwhelming. Way too many people and way too much talking about other people's lives and people asking about mine when in reality, neither of us cared. SO...I kind of started making things up about my life because I got bored. The only thing that was actually funny was that I told people I developed an addition to betting on Football games. I mean...thats not true but I wish it was. Not funny...who cares.

I have like too much to say about the weekend...that I'm not really gona say anything. The BEST BEST BEST part was the Run for Steph. Its a 3-mile-race that we started doing my Sophomore year in college in honor of Stephanie Kreiner who played Lacrosse and was the FH manager (I played both). Steph was a Bio major and a lacrosse player...and she contributed so much to the Dickinson Community. She was out with friends, one of whom was Amy Rankin (who played Field Hockey) in Baltimore and was hit and killed by a drunk driver while walking home. Steph was killed and Amy was severely injured and put into a coma. Every year I have been a part of the race as a volunteer and this year was the first time that I was allowed to run...every year I am just coming off of field hockey season and am injured. So...that said..I ran this year with three of my teammates from last year...it was fun and I ran relatively fast (I got 23 min--3 miles) and was ranked 46th! So that felt good...I beat an all-american football player that I was friends with...haha but he was probably still drunk or something.

But it was good. Right now I'm watching the interviews with Obama and McCain---during MNF and this is bizarre. I guess a good idea...but...weird. I love sports tho so...whatever.

I'm covering the election tomorrow...allllll day long. I'm not gonna sleep..I have theory that it will either be a land slide or VERY tight...I probably think much more heavily that it will be the latter....but we'll see I guess.

OK...annoyingly my computer just erased half of this post...so I'm not gonna rewrite it right now. Basically...I talked about how sick I am of the trend in being an ignorant 20-something acting like you know what the hell you're talking about when it comes to politics. All these raging idiots this past weekend said some of the stupidest stuff ever regarding the cadidates and it just refueled the fire in my soul of annoyance for my age group. People are SO ignorant and it bothers me so much that I was probably a lot like most of them before I started really reading the paper and paying attention to the issues in the world. These people have no idea what they're talking about...regardless of the candidate they support. Its not just the trend of liberal voting in college-aged kids...its also the trend of kids that clearly don't know the facts and just get all riled up about why McCain is better too...whether they are for McCain or Obama...there is so much misunderstanding on the real issues that it makes me sick. These people have no idea what they're talking about and are simply PARROTing what the media or their even more ignorant friends have been saying throughout the campaigns. I heard so many things like..."Oh my god...If Palin is in that White House..God help us all." Ew...ok I don't care if that's how you feel.....but why is it that when I ask..."WHY" nobody can say anything. And/or they look at me like...oh my god..."You think she would be good?" Well...I sure as hell think she would do a better job than you would...so annnoying. And...the Obama comments are also ridiculous like..."yeah...he hasn't even been the head of anything." Seriously...get a grip people....just because you're making commentary on the candidate and mimicking what you have heard on your sacred TV screen....it does NOT mean that you are educated on the topic. Nor does it mean that you should have the freedom to make everyone around you dumber by spreading stereotypical views and ignorant comments with your peers.

THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE EDUCATION ON POLITICS IN SCHOOL FOR EVERYONE> I learned a lot in school...but as an English major...I didn't HAVE to read or be in tune with what was going on in the world in politics. That was probably the last thing that was important for my grades...and in college...for many...grades are all that matters. So therefore, I didn't know much and knew I didn't. By no means did I walk around acting like I knew what I was talking about when it came to politics...but I still feel that it should be more a part of eveery curriculum...even (especially) in liberal arts schools.
