The Brighton Beat

Alright...complaining is over. For now. I seem to have forgotten the whole...become a better person in 2009. Imagine that.

Looking on the brigher side of this semester...my "beat" that I will be covering this semester is Brighton. Convenient...considering I live here. Oddly enough, I don't know very much about it at all so I've spent some time this weekend getting to know it in preparation to compile my "beat book". Essentially what this is is a book that I will form with a LOT of research about Brighton history, demographic stats, the future plan, contact info for important people, story ideas, maps, blogs/websites about the town, newspapers, other journalists in the area...and everything else you can imagine.

Because this is a public site, I don't wanna post the pictures of the exact place I live but I found pictures of my street from 1905 and it is so cool. My area was all green, had dirt roads and little cottages. There was one little general store that is still kinda there...but it has been really cool to learn about the history of this place I live.

I talked to the people I work for and for the next two weeks, I'm dedicating my life to this beat book during the day (when I'm not at my internship). I will take up a couple of nights to see the little babies I wish I could call my own...and make a little bit of money. From there, I will play it by ear and it will probably have to be a week by week decision as to whether I babysit during the day. But the reality is...I'm here to become a better reporter and this class will be an unbelievable experience that I personally need to have to become a better writer and reporter.

However...it is times like these that I wonder how other people who aren't as anal and obsessive compulsive as I am deal with assignments like this? Interesting. And we all know they WILL get it all done at some point... which is annoying. haha.

Seriously...Christian and I think you need to bag babysitting completely and enjoy yourself and stop worrying so much. Worrying is for adults like us...who have jobs, or lack of one...I know it's hard for you not to feel guilty, but really...stop. It's bad for your health.
BTW, went to the Caps game today...Ovie is awesome and I would totally marry him if it weren't for the fact that I am married to another foreigner who also happens to be a hockey player. Christian randomly ran into some guy who he used to play hockey against in Mannheim...totally weird, but cool. He was just over here to watch ice hockey for the weekend.

Yeah, Chill Out! Seeing those pictures of Brighton 100 years ago is like me thinking about college.
